Wastwater

Wastwater, situated in Wasdale Valley, is the most picturesque lake in the Lake District. Nestling at the foot of England’s highest mountain, Scafell Pike (978 m/3210 ft) with Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Yewbarrow and Great Gable mountains in close proximity. Fabulous walking trails abound in some of the most spectacular scenery in Great Britain.

Wastwater is England's deepest lake with fantastic screes coming right down to the lakes edge.

Wasdale Head at the head of the valley, close to the lake, is the spiritual home of English mountaineering.Visit the graveyard of St. Olaf's Church to see memorials to the many climbers who met their end on the nearby mountains. Visit also the Inn to enjoy a real ale & peruse the fascinating old climbing photographs .

Visit St Mary's Church in Gosforth close to Wastwater with its famous Viking Cross in the graveyard depicting the victory of Christ over the Heathen Gods.
