Haweswater

Haweswater is the highest & most isolated lake in the Lake District at 790 metres above sea level. It is the home to the only breeding pair of Golden Eagles in England.

In the 1930s, the pretty village of Mardale was submerged to provide water for Lancashire. The remains of the the village can be seen in times of drought ! The dam raised the lake level by 95 ft.

There are great views of Harter Fell and High Street at the valley's head.
