Derwent Water Keswick is on the Northern shore of Derwent Water with the valley of Borrowdale at its southern end . The National Trust owns most of the shoreline & provides numerous walking trails for visitors. Rare species of wildlife inhabit the environs of Derwentwater resulting in a Special Scientific Interest Site designation. Derwentwater is fed by the high fells at the head of Borrowdale, and has a long historical and literary background. There are four islands which are best seen via motor launches plying their trade on the water. Derwent Water and Bassenthwaite Lake were formerly a single lake until alluvial deposits separated them.
