Horseracing in Carlisle
The Romans were ensconced in Carlisle almost 2,000 years ago. The Emperor Hadrian decided to build a wall across Britain to keep out the troublesome Picts (Scots!). The Romans were great charioteers but no doubt also enjoyed the thrills of horseracing. Could thi be the start of horseracing in Carlisle?
Carlisle Racecourse itself is a thoroughbred horseracing venue at Blackwell, near Carlisle in the North of the Lake District. In fact, there is horseracing in the flat in the summer & horseracing over the jumps in the winter.
Conveniently located just off junction 42 of the M6, Carlisle Racecourse offers exciting horseracing which is now one of the premier regional attractions.
